New research, presented today at the EADV Congress, has revealed a significant improvement in skin cancer detection with new AI software, reaching a 100% detection rate for melanoma.
The study assessed 22,356 patients with suspected skin cancers over a 2.5-year period, also correctly detected 99.5% of all skin cancers and 92.5% of pre-cancerous lesions, showing a marked improvement from previous software versions.
This data demonstrates the great promise of AI in future healthcare provision and experts recommend further research with appropriate clinical oversight to allow the deployment of AI as a triage tool to support dermatologists in detecting skin cancer.
